A situationship is a romantic involvement without an explicit label, where the two people are sexually or emotionally involved but haven't agreed they're 'together.' Sometimes mutual; often one person wants more clarity than the other. Situationships have become a defining feature of app-era dating — partly because the apps make it easy to keep options open and partly because defining the relationship feels riskier than not.
