What it means

DTR stands for 'Define The Relationship.' It's the often-anxiety-inducing conversation about what you are to each other: dating, exclusive, in a relationship, or something else. The phrase has been around since at least the 2000s but has gained currency as the talking-stage and situationship eras have made the conversation feel higher-stakes.
