Breadcrumbing
Sending sporadic flirty messages to keep someone interested without actually pursuing them.
Definition
Breadcrumbing is the practice of leaving just enough engagement — a flirty text every couple weeks, a like on an old photo — to keep someone hooked, without any real intention of dating them. The motive is usually ego maintenance, having someone in reserve, or boredom-driven validation seeking.
Example
“He texts me 'thinking of you' every few weeks but never asks me out — classic breadcrumbing.”
