Attachment Style

A psychological framework categorizing how people relate in close relationships.

Definition

Attachment theory categorizes adult relationship behavior into roughly four styles: secure, anxious, avoidant, and disorganized (or anxious-avoidant). It's based on John Bowlby's mid-century research extended into adult romance by Hazan and Shaver in the 1980s. Has become near-mandatory shorthand in dating discourse, sometimes oversimplified.
